Would you like a TROUT??

Wow, what a heavy heavy weekend, and not just the music.

Wednesday 16th April 2008

Finished work at 9.00m on Wednesday night and went round the corner to meet everyone. Took them all to the Hans Brinker hotel and got them checked in. I had never been into this place before but Glassworks had made adverts for them and I had very low expectations as their self-deprecating advertising allows them to call themselves shit and live up to the expectations. The most basic of hostels, but what do you expect for under €30 a night. Once they were all settled we went to the local emporium to pick up some Mushrooms for the weekend then headed out to get some beers and catch up. As it was a Wednesday night it was pretty quiet in Amsterdam and after a couple of bars we headed to the red light district for the jokes. On the way Mugsey decided to get run over by a girl on a bike and for the rest of his time here had a black eye where she had run over his head. Of course we all laughed quite heartily. It was pretty much dead and after wandering around for a while we all decided to call it a night. They had all been boozing on the way over and were pretty wasted and I think everyone was into taking it slightly easy before the weekend began.

Thursday 17th April 2008
I woke up late and kept the guys waiting. i thought we were leaving at 2.00pm but it got moved back. I eventually found them by a canal on Prinsengracht and in waiting for me they had been playing music on the car stereo and ran the battery down. I headed back to work to get a number as it was gonna be impossible to get a jump as we had broken down with the canal on the left of the van and the battery was under the passenger seat meaning it was impossible to stretch the leads across into the road. A guy on a bike turned up eventually allowing Mugsey to wave at some more boats and we were on the road at around 3ish. of course on the way out of town Khaled and Matty had to pick up for themselves and for Dave and Louise which meant we finally didn't leave Amsterdam until 4.00pm. Our plan initially was to head to Eindhoven, get a hostel for the night then drive back to Tilburg to catch Capricorns who were on first on the mainstage at 6.30pm. By the time we got through the heavy traffic and anywhere near Tilburg it was 6.00pm so we headed straight to the venue so as not to miss Dearlove.

The rest of the evening post Capricorns (who were amazing) was a bit of a blur. They did the beer token system at the 013 venue which meant there was never more than one person ahead of you in the queue.
By the way the 013 was possibly the best venue i have ever been to. The sound in that place was incredible. From the smallest room to the biggest room. Weird Tom who I had met on the way over to Belgium in December for Dead Stop was there on his own and chatted to us for a bit. After being punished, me and Tubs watched Grand Magus who were pretty much a heavier Judas priest and who were amazing. We found Matty and Khaled, munched on some shrooms then watched/laughed at/enjoyed MOTHERFUCKING DOOOWWWNNN. The Purveying joke for the weekend was ripping GODAMNED Anselmo. Bar the songs and the jokes, the highlight was Tubs spotting Mugsey sitting on the side of the stage looking bored and taking photos with some girls. How he got there we are still yet to determine, no doubt he rocked the "if you act like you belong no-one will question you". After Down we carried on drinking into the night and it reached the point at around 2.00am where Khaled was definitely unable to drive us anywhere so we settled in for a night of sleep in the car. At about 3.00am Mugsey and Josh came back and joined us in attempting to sleep.

Friday 18th April 2008
We all surfaced at around 8.00am, freezing cold, with minimal sleep and not feeling that great. Funny how a good mood ensued from everyone though. The safari park we were due to stay in wasn't happening and Tubs had booked us into a chalet about 10/15 minutes drive from Tilburg. We were due to book in after midday but decided to go earlier as we had nothing else to do and thought that they may have let us in early. We arrived there at 9.15am and was told by the manager that our chalet would be ready at 10.30am. We eventually found a pub that Khaled convinced to open up to feed us. For what came to about €8 each we got loads of sandwiches and salad. it was a pretty sweet deal. We finally got into our chalet and crashed for the afternoon after the minimal sleep of the night prior. We got to the venue around 4.30pm and I finally caught up with Dearlove who I had missed for the whole of Thursday. Met some great people and watched Gentlemans Pistols, Trouble, Witch, Isis, Church of Misery. Another messy night but at least there was a bed to head home to.

Saturday 19th April 2008
Boris destroyed everyone. Absolutely. I was not into the first two songs at all, but after that they entered some kinda intergalactic freeform sonic soundscape that destroyed the 1500 or so people watching them. Biggest crowd of the weekend as well. Cult of Luna proved why they are a much better version of Isis and Enslaved were pure filth. We ended our last night at Roadburn in a blaze of smoke and booze and headed back to the chalet, I would say for everyone, satisfied with what we had experienced.

Sunday 20th April 2008
We Awoke at around 11am to blazing hot sunshine and the promise of an awesome day in Holland. We had all agreed the night prior to fuck off the Sunday night of Roadburn and instead head to Amsterdam for a final night of debauchery. We arrived back in the City to the sounds of all the in-jokes from the past 5 days that only the 6 of us would probably understand and/or find funny and after parking up at my work set about chilling in the town for the day. Food was consumed, Booze was sunk, weed was smoked, sluts in windows were leered at and this all culminated in a local jazz bar I know where we chilled for a few hours. I ended the night with everyone at a rock bar just off the Leidesplein and eventually said my goodbyes, especially to Josh and Mugsey who i would not be seeing again for a very long time.
